"For as long as I can remember, Rainbow Art Studio has been a huge part of my life and continues to be today. I began private lessons from Ms. Ahn when I was in 2nd grade. In 1993 when the studio opened, I remained her student up through high school. During this time, the guidance and support from Ms. Ahn and my fellow peers, helped me to get through a difficult period in my life. After graduation, I attended a Liberal Arts College-- Calpoly State University, SLO to major in Art & Design with a concentration in Graphic Design. Exploration of Art

Have fun as you design & focus on printmaking, drawing, collage, & painting. Students will learn about various mediums in the world of art! They will be introduced to various different materials and art supplies. If you are interested in art in its many mediums or if you just want to explore the art world, join us! Group work and critiques will be incorporated.

Life Drawing

This course is designed for students with previous drawing experience. We will explore the structure of the human body, employing a variety of mediums including graphite pencil, charcoal, ink, and conte crayon. Students will practice drawing from live models in class while paying special attention to proportion, line quality, balance, and the principles of movement and form. A basic understanding of bone structure and muscle will be covered as well. Group work and critiques are an important part of the class.

Computer Graphics

This class is for students to explore design within the world of computer graphics. By applying fine art skills to computer software programs, students will learn how to create digital art. Students will have the opportunity to photograph, illustrate, and design content for their own personal projects. Basic computer knowledge is recommended. Students will learn the basics of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.

College Portfolio

This is a high intensity studio class designed for high school and college transfer students who are looking to apply for art institutions and/or pursue further education in the art field. Students will work on assembling a portfolio as part of their application to art institutions and universities. Students will receive individual consultations from the instructor and individual/group critiques will be incorporated in class. This class will encourage critical thinking and communication; students will have the opportunities to learn from one another. A material list will be provided on the first day of class.

Film Making / Animation

This course gives students the opportunity to learn about the process of film production. Students will work with one another to plan their own productions, make shot lists, draw storyboards, film, and edit filmed sequences with basic software. The emphasis will be on composition and movement as elements used to communicate mood, pacing, and context in one of the most prominent forms of art and entertainment today.

Exploration of Nature Drawing New

This course teaches students to sketch from observation while drawing inspiration from the beauty of the natural world. The class will be held both indoors and outdoors, allowing students to challenge themselves through capturing live animals and plants in their art pieces. Field trips to local parks and zoos will provide multiple opportunities for students to get an up- close, immersive experience. The final project will encourage students to utilize their creativity and artistic skills to create a piece of artwork that demonstrates what they have learned in class.

Manga Character Design Camp

Jr. Fashion / Fashion Design

This hands-on course will examine fashion as a form of expression in 2-D and 3-D. The course will cover fashion illustration, pattern-making, textiles, color theory, and trends. Students will also touch upon the history of fashion. Each student will design their own collection, using inspiration boards and detailed fashion illustrations. One design will be chosen and featured in the final fashion show (on the last day of class), where students will be able to critique each other’s work and share their artistic vision.

Painting with Masters

Painting with the Masters is designed to expose students to various art movements and the prominent artists that made them happen. Three separate courses offer different perspectives and theories on the purpose and act of making art. Students will complete works of art influenced by the various theories and techniques of a period of their choice. Impressionism will focus on artists that include Vincent Van Gogh and Claude Monet, exploring their use of paint, line and color. Cubism will include a discussion on the 20th century art movement that included artists such as Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque and Henri Matisse. A study in Modernism will include theories and practices surrounding the work of Robert Rauschenberg, Jackson Pollock, Piet Mondrian and other artists of the mid-late 20th century.

Sculpture Camp

This course explores the technical and expressive approaches to three-dimensional artwork. This class is ideal for students who enjoy exploring a hands-on approach to creating their artwork. Students will strengthen their sculptural and 3-D design skills and develop their own ideas by solving conceptual challenges. Influential sculptural artists and theories will be discussed and applied to their work. Materials will include clay, textiles, and everyday objects brought from home.

Beginning Architectural Exploration

This course focuses on the design and construction of architectural buildings and forms. Works of influential architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Antoni Gaudi, and Frank Gehry will be studied, after which, students will create their own architectural designs. An introduction to perspective drawing will be given to aid the students in creating their own architectural drawings. Three dimensional models of their creations will be made using various sculptural materials.

This course provides students with a greater understanding of the techniques and uses of digital photography. Students will focus on all facets of image making: how to properly stage and light photos, create appealing composition, and also special after effects one can utilize on Photoshop. This course is designed for students interested in pursuing a future in art. Classes will feature a presentation from a local professional in the field who will answer questions and provide guidance.

Beginning Website Design New

This course is an introduction to modern web design. Students will learn the basics of HTML (hypertext markup language) as well as some CSS (cascading style sheets) to turn a simple code into a visual piece. Students will also explore the use of colors, composition, layout, and website structure with the basic tools of website development. By the end of the course, each student will be able to create a basic webpage template and website.
